Public Safety

You cannot have civil society without public safety. I know this from my parents’ struggles in war torn Somalia. My parents moved my family to Edina especially for greater opportunity and for safety. Recently, however, my neighbors, friends, and family have all been victims of crime in this district, and no longer feel safe in our community.

I never imagined we would face this level of violent crime in Edina and Bloomington. We must support law enforcement and the victims of crime, hold criminals accountable, and provide opportunities for real rehabilitation.

When elected, I will:

  • Speak of those who protect and serve in a respectful way. The demonization of first responders by some politicians has severe and negative public safety consequences.
  • Advocate for resources and funding to recruit, train, and retain high quality law enforcement professionals.
  • Work to better fund our court systems to ensure justice for everyone.
